Types of Frames and Framing Options
Custom frames come in an ever changing array of profiles, sizes and colors. At Off The Wall Art and Framing we carry over 3000 frame samples on the walls and a full selection of mats to match.
Custom picture framing not only includes choosing from a wide selection of mat types and colors to complement the artwork as well as the surroundings where the piece will be displayed, but it also involves choosing the appropriate frame style and design and determining the proper type of glazing.
Types range from the canvas Floater frame to a Gallery Frame to a Deep-set Memorabilia Frame among other styles. Profiles tend to vary much more for the Gallery Frame, ranging from a modern, flat look to an ornate traditional appeal.
Materials can range from an MDF covered with a think laminate, to polycarbonate (Poly-Generally used for large commercial projects) to Aluminum (metal) frames.
Mats and Fabric
Mats come in a very wide variety of colors and shades. The type of mat can vary from a non-Acid Free to very sophisticated museum mats with archival properties. We only use Acid Free mats in our shop to prevent paper acid from staining and discoloring the art. Sizes range from the standard 32x40 to an oversized 40x60. A few colors are available beyond those sizes and a custom fabric mat can be much larger (it does add considerable cost).
Different thicknesses can enhance the art. The tem "ply" is used to describe thickness, ranging from a 2 ply to a much thicker 8 ply.
Mat Core colors also can enhance an art piece without adding a second mat layer.
There are almost endless combinations of ways to frame a piece of art, a mirror, memorabilia, canvas and other art.
